Location: Toledo, OH Contract Value: $220M

This US $220 million project involves the construction of a six-lane cable-stayed bridge with a main span section of 372 metres supported by a single plane of cables, together with 1,830 metres of elevated approaches and ramps. The complete superstructure is constructed with precast concrete segments. Somerset designed an under-slung launching girder system for these precast segmental approach viaducts. The girder's total length was 96 metres, consisting of a 50-metre main span with 23-metre nose and tail sections. Each girder weighed 180 tonnes. Somerset also designed temporary support towers in the river for the main span and traveling derricks for the segment erection.
