Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge

Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge on Monterey Country's Highway 1 collapsed on January 2017 due to heavy rain as it caused fractures to the bridge and one of its support columns. A new steel bridge was designed to replace the old concrete bridge, and the construction had to be fast tracked in order to reconnect the region. Somerset completed the design and engineering of a novel launch system using strand jacks and special rollers. We also completed a launch study by analyzing the behavior of the bridge superstructure during the launch and the specially designed system over the temporary shoring structures. The design of this bridge was completed by October and the bridge opened in November of 2017.
