Pan-Pacific Hotel and Convention Centre

Location: Vancouver, BC Contract Value:

Somerset was retained on this fast-track project to provide erection stability analysis, erection sequencing and temporary bracing design. This structure was the showcase at the 1986 World Fair. The convention centre is approximately 305 metres long and, together with the hotel, contained 10,000 tonnes of structural steel. The hotel is 28 stories high with both field-welded moment connections and braced bays. The convention hall is spanned by 52-metre trusses. Steel erection took twelve months, after which the roof sails were installed under a separate contract.
