Jeremiah Morrow Bridge
Location: Oregonia, OH Contract Value:
These twin I-71 truss bridges are each 680 meters long and made up of 130-meter spans. The bridges cross over up to 73 meters above the Little Miami River Gorge. The spans are non-redundant deck trusses of the same age and type as the I-35 spans that collapsed in Minneapolis in 2007. Therefore, these twin trusses are being demolished and replaced with two new bridges. Somerset performed step-by-step analysis for the demolition scheme. Our scope included detail design of temporary span locks to freeze the expansion joints and temporary falsework towers to stabilize the final pier section of the bridge, as well as piece-by-piece removal procedures. Some span sections were dropped with explosives.
