Dockside Container Cranes

Location: Vancouver, BC Contract Value:

A 275-tonne capacity ringer crane with an 80-metre boom was chosen to erect two second generation container cranes on two separate docks in Vancouver, BC. Precise crane locations were required as the three main lifts (house, back girders and boom) were maximum picks with minimum clearance, each from a unique location. Exact centre of gravity calculations were carried out and all lifting lugs and rigging were designed by Somerset. The 90-tonne boom lift was set at precisely 70 degrees with the crane positioned to clear the front portal legs and the boom itself, all within capacity. To complicate this lift, the ringer was located on a hollow celled dock. Imposed loads from raising boom, swinging, and positioning were also verified.
