As in the Fort Lauderdale I-95 Interchange, Somerset assisted in winning this project for the same client. Unlike the I-95 project, however, this four-level structure consisted of 1,366 precast segments erected in balanced cantilever. All specially built equipment including tiltable spreaders, stressing platforms and steel falsebents were designed by Somerset. Due to some of the spans crossing over a canal and under a newly constructed bridge, certain segments were inaccessible to conventional equipment. Somerset conceived a 55-tonne capacity lifting frame to erect the inaccessible segments. We also designed a construction access bridge across the canal to carry a 400-tonne capacity crawler crane.
