Coos Bay Bascule Bridge

Situated on the scenic Cape Arago Highway, this twin leafed steel bascule bridge is a modern replacement for the 50-year-old swing span. Somerset provided the client an estimated budget for the erection of the new main span and flanking spans. After their bid was successful, we were engaged to provide detailed centre of gravity calculations, counterweight requirements for construction phases and final condition, erection procedures and rigging design. We conceived and detailed a method of tying back the leaves at a vertical angle of 70 degrees, allowing unrestricted water traffic into the harbour during construction.
