Lake Barkley Kentucky
Lake Barkley Bridge, Kentucky
Somerset produced the preliminary erection scheme for PCL at bid stage and was awarded the engineering scheme to erect the main arch bridge after PCL became the successful proponent.
The main span is a basket-handled tied arch bridge with a 550’ span. It is an approximate 110 ft. tall arch with the arch members inclined inward at 15 degrees. There are bracing members that horizontally connect the two arch members. The arch will be a signature, gateway entrance structure for the Land Between the Lakes and the navigational channel span for waterway traffic.
The erection method chosen by the contractor is a float in scheme using 4 barges and jacking towers.
